Bone Grafting Periodontal Procedures

Bone Grafting and Oral Reconstruction Austin TXPeriodontal disease is one of the leading causes of bone loss in the oral cavity, and is one of the reasons that proper oral hygiene is so important. At Dental Implants of Austin, we often use the bone grafting procedure to replace this lost bone tissue and encourage natural bone growth in its place.

What is dental bone grafting?

A versatile and predictable procedure, bone grafting can fulfill a wide variety of functions. It can create a stable base for dental implant, placement repair bone loss due to gum disease or just make your smile appear more esthetically pleasing.

Why should I have a bone grafting procedure?

Depending on your particular situation, bone grafting may be the best option for you. Some reasons we might opt for this procedure:

  • If your jawbone lacks the quality or quantity of bone necessary to properly anchor your dental implants, bone grafting can strengthen and thicken the implant site.
  • If you need a sinus augmentation or sinus lift, we can graft bone onto the sinus floor so that implants can be securely placed.
  • If you’ve lost bone due to trauma or severe periodontal disease, a bone graft can fill in the deficient areas.

What does the treatment involve?

Bone grafting is a fairly simple periodontal procedure. The gum is pushed back and the bone material is placed in the appropriate area in order to repair or augment the existing bone.  The area will need to heal between 3 and 6 months
